Missions: A Love Wins Potluck

Yesterday, a crew of thirty middle school students and their families loaded up the vans with tables, chairs, homemade food, and all of the supplies and headed to 707 W. Jones for a "pop-up potluck" with the congregation at Love Wins Ministries.  Each family brought their offerings - chicken and pastry, ham, fried chicken, spaghetti and meatballs, mac and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, brownies, chocolate and whipped cream desserts, doughnut bread pudding, and much more.  Each dish was made with love and carefully planned out by our students and their families.  Time, effort, and forethought went into deciding what would be the tastiest thing to share with our friends at Love Wins.

When we arrived at Love Wins, the congregation was still meeting in their small chapel; but we were busy at work outside.  In a matter of minutes the feast was set and the table prepared.  Sara Acosta of Love Wins was there to greet us, and she immediately posted a picture to their Love Wins facebook page calling it the "pop-up potluck."

As we set the tables, I could not help but sing our theme song from Passport Camp this year - "Come to the feast your seat is ready/ Come to the feast of our Lord/ Come to the feast all who need a helping of love and grace/ All we have to do is show the world to you/ to the table of love and grace."

Matthew 22:9 says this: "Go to the street corners and invite anyone you can find."

This is what Love Wins Ministries does best.  They go out to people where they are and invite them to the table of love and grace.  I am so happy that our families had the opportunity to get to know some of the people involved in such amazing Kingdom work.

A simplistic explanation of why we would do this with our Sunday afternoon:
...because every congregation needs a potluck dinner.

Thanks Love Wins for inviting us to the table.
